Hi! It's hot here.
Really hot, pretty much constantly. And humid. I'm in Texas right now, sent down here to broil. And possibly for training.
I was all excited to do things before I got here, but the nasty heat (it hasn't been less than 25 plus humidity yet, and that was in the dead of night) has killed any ambition I had. It doesn't help that the city's bus system is awful, either. It would take 3 buses to get to the zoo, which is only a quarter of the city away from my hotel. Which would probably amount to at least 1.5 hours, one way. And the city is huge (3+ million) and spread out, so cabbing isn't very viable. So sad. And hot.
It makes me feel less lazy when I detail my reasons. Thanks for listening.
My other option is walking. I did a lot of that earlier this week, culminating in the 3 hour jaunt we took one day in lieu of supper. That helped kill my ambition too, the painfully sore feet plus the heat plus the lack of food that day. The whole city seems to be a big shopping district, from what I've seen so far. Lots of big box stores. And everyone owns a car. The police circle anyone walking, I guess lack of car means criminal around here. Or weird Canadian. Guilty! Happily, the hotel backs onto a Target, so I can buy pretty much anything I need. It's rather convenient, and hasn't helped my laziness tendency.
Also putting a damper on the idea of walks - rattle snakes! And scorpions! One of the other guys from Canada here has a propensity for walks through the bush along the river. Although it's lovely there, I don't really want to die.
